In Tokeneke, the houses were all big with big lawns and big trees. They looked dark somehow, far off the road, hidden under the trees. In Rowayton, the houses along the wetlands were right out in the open. They had funny shapes and funny colors, bright yellow, green, red.
“Artists,” my daddy said as we drove down the road to Wee Burn. “Artists and Democrats.”
